yuletide 2020 letter

dear yuletide author,

Happy Yuletide 2020 and thank you for writing for me! It's been a while, and I’m excited to participate again. I hope you can have fun as well, or at least, as much as possible during these diseased times...! I hope my letter is descriptive enough to give you an idea of what to write, but also open enough to allow you freedom in writing what inspires you! I’m generally easy to please if it doesn’t include anything in my dislikes section.

My ao3 is mulkki and my twitter is [profile] coelesti to give you an idea of my brand of garbáge, and below this paragraph is a quick rundown of likes and dislikes. The likes list is just whatever’s off the top of my head, just because it’s not on the list doesn’t mean I dislike it! It’s definitely not an exhaustive list, feel free to use them more as trains of thought to depart from and not a locked-in list.

Likes:
-slow burn with the feelios
-enemies to lovers
-idiots for each other
-childhood friends
-loyalty
-size/age/personality gaps
-pining: onesided and mutual
-found families
-honestly i love most genfic of the characters just interacting

Dislikes:
-abo
-crackfic
-mpreg/nothing with small children/babies in general

My smuttier preferences are here.

Onto the requests!

Mahoutsukai no Yakusoku

Access: the game is free to download/play (through QooApp) and the team at mahoyaku-eng.com have done an excellent job translating!

About: Mahoyaku is a mobile game featuring 21 cats wizards you, as their Sage, have to wrangle together in order to address the yearly Great Calamity (ep1 spoiler, it’s the Moon). Joke intro aside, what I love about this game is how it does a great job telling a story and getting you emotionally invested in these characters—the sharp writing balancing the great jokes and even greater heartstring-tugging moments made me binge-read the main story as fast as I could unlock them. I am terrible at keeping up with games, but this fucker motivated me so hard I had a minor identity crisis at how hard I worked to unlock the chapters.

Prompts: So… Figaro. Figaro you terrible terrible man. I hate him so much. I will take anything with him.

Half-jokes aside I have a soft spot for the slimy terrible Figaro and the terribly exhausted Faust, as well as the quiet but steadfast, loyal Lennox; I love that they have a shared past and how *slaps roof of car* this baby can fit so much trauma with what happened during the Revolution and with Alec and all. I also love how Figaro and Oz grew up together as students under Snow and White and then eventually became the World Domination Pair. And it’s such a far cry from how he is with the Southern kids, Rutile and Mitile! He's a very multifaceted character with complex motivations and even more complex issues (that he himself refuses to work out, let alone acknowledge! why are you like this!!), and I'd love to see him dealing with the fallout of his disastrous life choices. Actually, I truly would love to see Figaro eat it in any way, be it beaten up by someone or getting the emotional scolding he's long, long overdue for. But also, I'm down for any caper that ends up with Figaro as the others' punching bag. Figaro bullying... (kardashian voice) it's what he deserves

ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Department

Access: It’s available to watch on Crunchyroll!

About: ACCA is an anime about bread and politics, but not in a miserable way. Jean, our hero, is a man with such a strong RBF he develops a reputation he really does not feel he deserves, and along the way his friend Nino is there to support him… always there… no matter where. This series is literally “local government auditor goes around auditing the different districts of his country”, but it manages to do it in an unbelievably intriguing way. And there’s bread.

Prompt: You can probably tell by now, but I love… Nino/Jean. I will take anything with these two. I am an easy-to-please hoe. That aside, I adore Nino’s devotion and loyalty, and I have to lie down when I think about how he and his father basically dedicated all of their lives to Jean’s family! I mean! What kind of dedication is that! I love that. And Jean isn’t one to let him keep one-sidedly live like that after it all, either—how would things change at the end of it all, with the truth being out? How would Jean feel about the sacrifices and the dedication he didn’t know he was receiving until now? Also, they should get to eat all the delicious bread and chocolates they want. Let them be happy.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Access: The newer series Die Neue These is available on Crunchyroll, and the original 1988 epic is available on HIDIVE!

About: Okay, so I’m talking about the original 1988 series here but I have also watched Die Neue These so I’m down with both. I’ll hide spoilers for things from the 1988 series that are past how far DNT got, just in case. Though considering Kircheis is my boy, I might not need to… haha… oops I just made myself cry

That aside, Legend of Galactic Heroes is an epic space opera of the ages, and honestly? In the recent political climate I have found it holds up remarkably well, especially when criticizing the corruption of democracy into a system for only a select few to benefit from, along with the forceful, violent imposition of those who think they are in the right upon everyone else, etc. etc.

Prompt: So I love Kircheis a lot and can’t help but wonder, like the series itself does, how things might have turned out if he hadn’t died and could continue to serve as Reinhard’s heart/conscience. I especially like him interacting with the other admirals, namely Reuenthal and Mittermeyer as the group of four who gathered together on that stormy night to swear to taking down the Goldenbaum regime. They weren’t on the tag list so I will not force it but if you can spare a thought for Reuenthal/Mittermeyer… they’re great….

The focus is always on Reinhard as this great conqueror, but I think Kircheis is also extremely commendable because he was just a boy next door (literally!) but was able to follow and keep up with someone regularly described as a one-of-a-kind genius. Like… that’s love. He followed Reinhard through military school and galactic conquest and he did it by the power of love. Love that shit.

Well, that's it from me! This letter is a mess because I just remembered Yuletide is a thing today and I’m writing this before I forget to write it and leave you with nothing, so please feel free to write in any direction your inspiration takes you! The prompts I’ve written are by no means exhaustive, and I promise I am extremely easy to please. I hope you have a fun yuletide season, and hoping you and yours stay safe!
